Israel Folau has confidently said that if given the chance he would walk back into the Wallabies jersey despite playing just two Tests since his final game for Australia in 2018.
The 33-year-old played the last of his 73 Tests for the Wallabies in November 2018, before Rugby Australia terminated his contract in May 2019 for controversial social media posts.
Folau has since used changes to World Rugby’s eligibility laws to represent Tonga, but played only two Test matches before being left out of the 2023 World Cup squad due to a knee injury.
However, in a wide-ranging interview with The Sporting News’ Ebbs and Flows podcast, Folau said he believes he would still be able to play for the Wallabies.
“I think I could,” he said.
“If I got given the opportunity to go into that changeroom and put on the gold jersey again tomorrow, I think I’d fit straight in.”
