A serious injury has reportedly ruled out Kurtley Beale for Australia’s July Tests against Wales, and cast doubt over the veteran playmaker’s career.

According to reports, scans are expected to confirm that the 35-year-old Beale – recently named in Joe Schmidt’s 38-man Wallabies squad – ruptured his Achilles during a Sydney club match on Saturday.

Playing for Randwick against Eastern Suburbs, it is understood that Beale fell untouched in the back-field.

The 95-cap Beale was set for a national team return, last playing for the Wallabies in 2021.

A Wallabies spokesperson stated Beale will undergo scans on Monday. Australia’s first Test under new coach Schmidt is against Wales on Saturday, followed by matches in Melbourne and against Georgia.

Beale had been cleared to play for Randwick after being excluded from next week’s Test squad. He recently returned to rugby with the Force after a 12-month stand-down due to cleared legal charges.
