Springbok prop Thomas du Toit has been an “excellent” signing for Bath, helping Johann van Graan’s team progress to a first Premiership final in nearly a decade.

This is according to Bath teammate and fellow Springbok Louis Schreuder, who has been based in England for the last four years.

Du Toit added to Bath’s large contingent of South African players when he signed from the Sharks last year. He has enjoyed a sensational season, scoring 11 tries in all competitions.

The 29-year-old was joined by lock Quinn Roux, loosehead Juan Schoeman and scrumhalf Schreuder in the Bath side that beat Sale Sharks in the Premiership semi-finals on Saturday.

“You want the South Africans to do well, wherever they are,” Schreuder told Sunday newspaper Rapport.

“Thomas has been excellent for us this year. He was our Player of the Year, and that in his first season in England.

“It often takes a few years for guys to adapt here, but he settled in quickly and is playing incredible rugby.

“The same goes for [Harlequins fullback] Tyrone [Green] and Benhard [Janse van Rensburg], who has also been very good at Bristol.”
