Cape Town has reportedly declined the European Professional Club Rugby (EPCR) governing body’s offer to host a Champions Cup final.
According to Rapport, it is simply too costly for South Africa to host the decider of one of rugby’s premier club competitions, with the hosting rights valued at around $16 million (R285 million).
EPCR officials recently visited South Africa to explore the possibility of bringing the prestigious final to local shores in the future. They held discussions with SA Rugby, who facilitated a meeting with key decision-makers in Cape Town.

Despite these talks, Cape Town officials were reportedly unwilling to commit to the hefty price tag. Next season’s final has already been confirmed for Dublin, Ireland.
This year, the Champions Cup final was hosted at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where French side Toulouse claimed the title after beating Leinster 31-22.
