Chris Foy warns that the Springboks’ impressive victory over Scotland at Murrayfield sends an ominous message to England for Saturday’s clash at Twickenham.
Writing for the UK’s Daily Mail, Foy argues that despite facing fierce Scottish resistance on Sunday, the South Africans demonstrated their trademark blend of “muscle and magic” to secure a 32-15 win.
Foy highlights how the world champions weathered Scotland’s physical challenge, particularly after deploying the Bomb Squad. He points to a crucial turning point through Lukhanyo Am’s turnover penalty, which shifted momentum back to South Africa.
According to Foy, the most concerning aspect for England was the Boks’ ability to combine raw power with skilful play, exemplified by a try featuring a dominant scrum, Andre Esterhuizen’s direct running, and Willie Le Roux’s clever chip for Makazole Mapimpi.

He emphasises that despite some uncharacteristic errors, the match served as valuable preparation for the Boks. He notes that Rassie Erasmus’s rotation policy means England will face an even stronger line-up, with key players such as Aphelele Fassi, Cheslin Kolbe, and Manie Libbok fresh for this week’s duel.
“Rassie Erasmus’ world champions were pushed to the precipice by a ferociously physical Scottish performance, before a late flex which showed what a formidable force they are,” Foy writes.
“The Springboks will now head south to prepare for their latest assignment at Twickenham, buoyed by the way they fought their way out of a tight corner.
“After the muscle came the magic. Willie le Roux aimed a clever chip towards the left flank, where wing Makazole Mapimpi arced round, claimed the catch and crossed to score his second try. It was a potent blend of force and artistry, which is just what the Boks have stood for this year.
“As their hordes of fans celebrated loudly at Murrayfield on Sunday night, the green-and-gold juggernaut had ploughed through a hefty Scottish roadblock and is now motoring again. At this stage, it looks unstoppable.”
