Ben-Jason Dixon marked his first Test start with a sensational performance as the DHL Stormers loose forward showed his quality at blindside flanker for the Springboks.

Dixon earned his second cap in the green and gold jumper as the world champions capped off a three-Test July schedule with a 10-try mauling of minnows Portugal in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

Playing in the No 7 jersey, the 26-year-old Stormers star made his impact felt, scoring a try and making 82 metres from 14 carries, 10 tackles and three offloads.

Dixon spoke highly of the lessons he has learned since being called up to the national squad this season.

“It was a pleasant experience slotting into the group and especially working with the senior players, who have been so accommodating and helpful,” he said.

“One of the main things that stood out for me was how those players take what is discussed in the week and manage to implement it on gameday.

“Since the beginning of the week everyone was focused on the task at hand because the coaches made it clear that we should not underestimate Portugal, and each one of us just wanted to go out there and give our best, and we enjoyed the match thoroughly.”

Rassie Erasmus will announce a 30-man Bok squad for the 2024 Rugby Championship on Tuesday before they depart for Australia next Wednesday.
