Like most South African franchises, the Stormers have been dealing with a hefty injury toll at times this season, and star flyhalf Manie Libbok is one of the players who has been conspicuous by his absence.
Libbok has been sidelined January with a knee injury, while Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu has recently returned to action and claimed the No 10 jersey.
It will be interesting to see how Libbok is reintegrated into action, and the latest report suggests he could be back for the Stormers’ final league match against Cardiff in the middle of May, although it could even be earlier.
“If Sacha [Feinberg-Mngomezulu] keeps going I think we’ll keep Manie on ice but we could push him into action against Benetton (at the end of April),” coach John Dobson said.
“We’ll probably look at him for Cardiff but he could play earlier if we need him, that’s where we are with him.”
Manie Libbok has been missed by the Stormers
Recently, RugbyPass reporter Neil Fissler – who is known for his reliable transfer articles – has suggested that Libbok could be considering a move overseas as he is seen as an attractive acquisition by Leicester Tigers.
Libbok has also been linked with French side Racing 92, and apparently that option could also still be on the table.
While the 27-year-old is said to be committed to staying in Cape Town, he has battled with injuries in recent times, and there is increasing competition for the Stormers No 10 jersey as Feinberg-Mngomezulu is now being viewed primarily as a flyhalf rather than as a utility back.
All in all, a big few weeks lie ahead for the talented pivot.
WHO DO YOU THINK THE STORMERS SHOULD PLAY AT 10 WHEN HE RETURNS?
