It should never be forgotten what a crucial role Deon Fourie played for the Springboks at the 2023 World Cup, serving as the back up hooker to Bongi Mbonambi and making some crucial contributions on the way to the title.
However, in April last year he suffered a serious knee injury while playing for the Stormers, but fought his way back – insisting he didn’t want to end his career on the sidelines.
Another blow for the Springbok forward
Unfortunately, the veteran forward is believed to have broken his tibia during Saturday’s 34-29 URC game against Connacht at Cape Town Stadium.
Considering he will turn 39 years old in September, there are understandable concerns that he might not be able to make a comeback to the field this time.
“That’s a very serious injury, by the looks of things,” Dobson said post-match. “It looks like a broken tibia. We haven’t scanned or x-rayed him yet… but Keke (Morabe) was out for close to a year with that.
“You’d have to do the maths and realise we’re probably at a crossroads (for his career), which I hope is not the case. Often with those things, it depends on the nature of the break.”
DO YOU THINK HE COULD STILL FIGHT HIS WAY?
