Weeks ago, Springbok captain Siya Kolisi was linked with a sensational return to the Stormers – a move that appears dead in the water.
The double World Cup winner, who played 118 times for the Mother City outfit, seems set to stay at the Sharks:
“The Stormers have not even formally approached the Sharks about the possibility of releasing Siya from his contract early,” an insider source revealed.
Rumours of a homecoming to the Stormers circulated after the Springboks’ public divorce. The 33-year-old was reported to be keen on reuniting with his children, who attend school in Cape Town.
Springbok opportunities
As the new year dawns, Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus is gearing up for another dominant year, following 2024’s eleven wins in thirteen.
The array of talent at Erasmus’ disposal is extensive, able to field several strong sides that would each test the All Blacks.
Albeit the Springboks captain, Kolisi is aware of the inventory around him, and understands the task of retaining his jersey is great:
“To be honest, I’m not thinking about the captaincy. I just want to make the team,” said Kolisi.
“The most important thing for me is to have the chance to play for the Springboks. Whether I’m captain or not is not in my control. I just want to play well enough to be part of the team, and to hopefully make it to the 2027 World Cup.”
Kolisi, who has 92 caps for the Springboks, has captained the green and gold on 61 occasions.
Should Kolisi return to Stormers?
