Earlier this year it was confirmed that Pick n Pay had signed a four-year contract as a Tier 1 sponsor of SA Rugby, with the company’s logo set to feature in gold on the back of the Springbok jersey and all other national teams.

However, in what was a new aspect of the sponsorship model, it was also confirmed that the Pick n Pay logo will appear on the front of all national teams’ training apparel.

It’s perhaps this ‘fine print’ that caught many off guard when the new Springbok training jerseys were showcased this week with the Pick N Pay logo emblazoned across the chest of a kit that was a rather strange mix of green and mustard yello.

Of course, it didn’t take long for social media to erupt, and while the look of the new Springbok training jerseys did come in for plenty of criticism and jokes, there is also an old adage that Pick N Pay will probably be keeping in mind: ‘No press is bad press’.
