The likely next Springboks coach has been revealed with a Bok legend hinting at Rassie’s probably successor.

Springboks head coach Rassie Erasmus will remain head coach until the end of the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

His current contract runs until the end of the 2027 season. Meaning, we still have three more years with Rassie at the helm.

However, all good things must come to an end.

Unfortunately, this includes Rassie’s legendary run as head coach of the Boks.

So, let’s take a look at his likely successor.

LEGEND SCHALK BURGER PREDICTS SUPRISE SUCCESSOR

Interestingly, Bok legend, Schalk Burger believes that Felix Jones is the man set to take over from Rassie.

“Maybe Felix Jones is the next one to take over the head coach job,” Burger stated on the Boks office podcast.

However, SA Rugby has the tendency to hire local coaches who are already in their system.

All of the recent Springbok coaches over the last decade. Erasmus, Jacques Nienaber, Heineker Meyer and Alistair Coetzee all born in SA.

NEXT SPRINGBOK COACH LIKELY TO COME FROM WITHIN

Meaning, the Springboks and SA Rugby are unlikely to bring in a coach from outside of their system.

Therefore, this puts Mzwandile Stick, Felix Jones and Daan Human as the favourites to take over from Rassie after the 2027 RWC.

Meanwhile, another Bok legend Jean de Villiers feels that Stick is the next likely Bok coach. He feels that SA Rugby will not appoint a ‘foreign’ coach to take charge of SA Rugby.

“I don’t think we’re ready for a ‘foreign’ head coach,” De Villiers stated on SARugbyMag.

“If this group remains, he won’t ever step away totally. I think Stick is the man to date,” he added

Meanwhile, Human has also been a key part of the Springboks succuss under both Rassie Erasmus and Jacques Nienaber during the dominant 2019-2024 period. So, he will also be in the running come the end of the 2027 RWC.
