Veteran Springbok Trevor Nyakane has opened up about the career threatening injury his suffered a fortnight ago.
Two weeks ago during the Sharks’ 29-19 United Rugby Championship win over the Bulls in Pretoria, Nyakane twisted his ankle in the 12th minute and had to be helped off the field.
While it was initially hoped that it’s not a serious long-term injury, the Springbok himself has now confirmed in a social media post that he had raptured his Achilles tendon and is facing a long road to recovery.
“Last week Saturday I raptured my Achilles tendon, [it’s] very painful,” Nyakane wrote on Instagram.
“I just went under the knife, [the] surgery was very successful. The doctors were very positive afterwards, now it’s the road to recovery and staying positive in this journey.”
“Thank you for all the messages and support from everyone I really appreciate it.”
