Eben Etzebeth recently returned to action after an injury niggle and concussion issue had forced him onto the sidelines for the majority of the year, but he is now looking forward to making up for lost time.
The Springboks will have been monitoring his fitness and form closely as the 2025 Test season fast approaches, but the good news is that the powerful lock recently overcome another injury scare and is determined to make a big impact in the final stretch of the domestic season with the Sharks.
“It was obviously frustrating with the concussion,” he commented this week ahead of the Sharks’ URC quarter-final. “There was not really a timeline on it, it’s all about your symptoms and how you respond to certain treatments. So I’d think, ‘maybe I’ll be back in a week’s time’ and then it’s a bit longer.
“And then I picked up a hamstring injury and had to sit out a bit more. But it was good to get that first 80 minutes against Scarlets under the belt,” he added.
EBEN ETZEBETH IS BACK IN BUSINESS
Etzebeth said it was actually quite rare to be feeling ‘fresh’ at this stage of the season.
“It’s weird to say that the body is quite fresh, because we’re already into the knockout stage and I haven’t played all that much this year. When you finally get a full game, you really feel like you’re back in the mix.”
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON WHAT THE BIG LOCK COULD ADD TO THE END OF THE SHARKS’ SEASON?
