The Sport Industry Awards awards honour the creativity and dedication behind South Africa’s most iconic sporting events, campaigns, and sponsorships.
This year’s standout achievement was claimed by specialist sports and entertainment agency T+W, who were named Agency of the Year.
Renowned for producing the acclaimed documentary series Chasing the Sun and its sequel, Chasing the Sun 2, T+W’s storytelling expertise was a highlight of the evening, writes BizCommunity.
An intimate portrayal
Chasing the Sun 2 delves deep into the Springboks’ victorious 2023 Rugby World Cup campaign in France. Much like the first season, it offers viewers a unique and intimate behind-the-scenes look at the strategies, challenges, and emotions that shaped their journey.
In particular, the series focuses on both the psychological and tactical aspects of a World Cup-winning team.
It puts the spotlight on the leadership styles of the coaches and the team’s boldness and meticulous preparations.
Beyond the on-field heroics, Chasing the Sun 2 explores the cultural and societal impact of the Springboks—portraying the rugby team as a powerful unifying symbol for South Africa.
Originally airing on SuperSport, the series has since reached a global audience via Showmax. It has also been made available in key markets like the UK, Australia, and Germany.
T+W’s groundbreaking work on the series also earned them top honours at the Sport Industry Awards for Audio-Visual Content of the Year and Campaign of the Year.
The Springboks’ low points in 2024
The world-champion Springboks finished this year’s international test season as the World’s Number 1 ranked side.
They achieved this thanks to a clean sweep in the November tests, off the back of a successful Rugby Championship.
However, there were some areas in 2024 where they missed the mark. Read more on that assessment here.
