The Lions have confirmed ex-Junior Springbok duo Asenathi Ntlabakanye and Francke Horn have signed a contract extensions that will keep the promising forward duo at Ellis Park until at least 2027 and 2028, respectively.
As per the Lions’ announcement, the two bruising forwards – who are both touted for Springbok honours – pledged their long-term future to the Lions.
The 25-year-old Horn, who made his senior debut the Lions in 2020, is one of the best performing No 8s in the United Rugby Championship; and his all-action style of play has landed him in conversation for a potential Springbok call-up in the near future.
“Representing and leading this franchise is a massive honour for me,” Horn said.
“I’m excited to experience what the future has in store as I believe we can achieve big things as a team and, most importantly, bring joy to Joburg once again,” the former Junior Springbok added.
Meanwhile giant front rower Ntlabakanye reportedly turned down a lucrative offer from European champions Toulouse to extend his stay at the Lions.
The prop, who is also a two-time former Junior Springbok, put pen to paper on a deal that’ll see him play for the Lions until at least 2027.
“I’m here to stay,” the big man said.
“This means a lot to me. Having been part of the Lions family since my school days, and now getting the opportunity to stay here for a few more years is incredibly special to me,” the Junior Springbok explained.
“To all the Lions fans – I look forward to seeing a whole lot more of you at Ellis Park.”
