Keo & Zels were split over the STECO RUGBY PLAY OF THE WEEK, so they awarded two winners – one from the Bulls and one from the Sharks in last weekend’s Vodacom United Rugby Championship play-offs.
It adds to the spice for this weekend’s BOKBUSTER semi-final against the Bulls and Sharks at Loftus in Pretoria.
The two teams have met nine times in the URC, with the Sharks ahead by one victory. History, and the Sharks league double over the Bulls in this season’s URC, counts for little when it comes to play-off knockout rugby.
Keo & Zels, on their popular podcast/rugby show have aligned with STECO to single out innovative solutions that combine power, sustainability and precision, all the attributes of STECO and the filter to win the PLAY OF THE WEEK.
Keo acknowledged Sharks winger Ethan Hooker was power and precision in his solo try against Munster but gave his vote to Bulls flyhalf Keagan Johannes who scored a special solo try. Zels acknowledged Johannes’s contribution throughout the game and marvelled at his versatility, but for him Hooker was the stand out player for the Sharks and his try was the moment that turned the momentum for the Sharks, who drew 24-all after a 100 minutes of action. This included 20 extra time minutes.
This led to a penalty shootout, the first in the history of the competition and Keo and Zels gave a special mention to the Sharks mighty marksmen trio of Jordan Hendrikse, Jaden Hendrikse and Bradley Davids, who kicked all six attempts at posts. Munster missed one of their first five and could not beat the Sharks after Davids succeeded with the sixth and final kick.
