We did not agree on every position but Zels and myself picked the 15 individuals in each position from the South Africa’s Vodacom United Rugby Championship whom we felt made the greatest impact in the league season, writes Mark Keohane.
This is not a Springboks selection and it is not a starting XV in which we focused on what is possibly the best positional combinations. The measurement was a player had to have participated in at least 9 of the 18 league matches and he had to have played the majority of those matches in one position for consideration.
For example, Damian Willemse of the Stormers would ordinarily make any composite team, but his matches were limited because of injury and when he played, it was in three different positions, fullback, inside centre and flyhalf. He was thus not considered.
