It was largely a weekend to forget for South Africa’s domestic franchises this past weekend, but full focus can now shift back to the URC.
The Stormers, Bulls and Sharks all failed to qualify for the Champions Cup playoffs, while the Cheetahs also failed to progress to the Challenge Cup knockout stage. Thankfully, the Lions are at least still looking strong in that competition.
There will be an opportunity for the South African sides to seek redemption in the URC, though, with the Bulls and Lions set for an appetising Jukskei derby at Ellis Park on Saturday (14:45 kick off).
Meanwhile, the Sharks will now travel to Wales to take on Cardiff, who are four log points ahead of the fifth-placed Durbanites.
There is also a a big challenge waiting for the Stormers as they get set to face log-leaders Leinster, who have won all nine of their matches so far.
