Argentina have added a Vodacom URC winner to their 34-player squad for the Rugby Championship clash with the Springboks in Santiago.

Los Pumas coach Felipe Contepomi on Wednesday announced a bolstered 34-man squad for next Saturday’s match, when Argentina will look to keep alive their hopes of a first-ever Rugby Championship title.

Argentina will go into the match on the back of a record-breaking 67-27 victory over the Wallabies in Santa Fe, which lifted the Pumas to within eight points of the log-leading Boks with two games to go.

26-year-old tighthead prop Lucio Sordoni, who won last year’s URC with the Glasgow Warriors, is one of three players added to the squad.

Veteran centre Matías Moroni, on the hunt for his 85th Test cap, and France-based loosehead prop Ignacio Calles have also joined the squad.

Los Pumas will be without Eduardo Bello after the tighthead suffered an injured ACL in the second Test against the Wallabies.

“The Rugby Championship final is coming up and it is a very important moment for us given that we are going to face the two-time world champions,” Contepomi said.

“Without a doubt, these are going to be two great matches and we will face them with a lot of responsibility. We are not measured by results but by our actions and that is where we will put our focus in the next two weeks.”
