MARK KEOHANE applauds the Springboks after a “fabulous day” for SA rugby Down Under, in what was also a testament to the depth that Rassie Erasmus continues to build.

The South Africans once again overpowered Australia in the Rugby Championship on Saturday with a 30-12 victory in wet and slippery conditions at Optus Stadium.

The two-time reigning world champions scored the game’s only four tries in front of 58,197 fans, many supporting the Boks with Perth home to a strong expat community.

Erasmus made 10 changes after a 33-7 triumph last week in Brisbane and his charges overcame a grittier Wallabies in a ferocious contest, with several players forced off with head injuries.

Traditionally, the Boks’ record in Australia is not great, but Saturday’s result was their third on the bounce Down Under, dating back to a 24-8 win in Sydney two years ago.

KEO: Perth will provide Rassie with answers

Writing for TimesLIVE, Keohane praises the 2024 Boks for their historic achievement, becoming the first team in the professional era to win back-to-back Tests against the Wallabies in Australia within the same month.

Despite the Wallabies being at their lowest point, Keohane emphasises that this moment is about celebrating South Africa’s success and dominance.

He credits Erasmus for his strategic decisions, including rotating players and still achieving record wins. Keohane also touches on the All Blacks’ crushing victory over Argentina at Eden Park, likening the Boks’ dominance to New Zealand’s.

“South Africa, take a bow. Perth, on Saturday, was a special win,” he writes. “The Wallabies needed a miracle in the first half to shock the sport.

“They were not good enough to produce it, and when the Boks changed ends 11-9 ahead, you just knew that the second half was going to get messy the moment the Boks’ super subs were introduced.

“The script wrote itself and the Boks were supreme in the second half. They won by 18 and could easily have won by 30. That is the level of the dominance of the Boks.

“It was just a fabulous day for the Springboks. Enjoy it and salute the super Bok history makers.”
