All Blacks prop Tamaiti Williams says the clash with the Springboks at Ellis Park is “by far” the most intense atmosphere he has ever played in.
Williams started as the All Blacks built up a 27-17 lead in last Saturday’s clash, before the Springboks came from behind to snatch a thrilling victory.
Playing in his 11th Test match, it was the first time that the 24-year-old loosehead prop had faced the Springboks in South Africa, having previously tackled the world champions in last year’s World Cup final in Paris.
Speaking to RNZ, Williams says he has relished being part of an All Blacks tour for the first time in his career.
“I’ve really been enjoying this trip. Just seeing other people’s backgrounds, it’s a real eye-opener,” he said.
“Especially being in Johannesburg, how much they love the game over there. They’re so proud of their nation. Meeting people, going out for coffees, they are just so proud of the Springboks here.
“When we got to the game – I always heard about the bus ride to Ellis Park – but being able to witness that was special.”
“They’re so proud of their national…they’re so proud of the Springboks here”
