It’s been a long wait for the Blitzboks to once again claim a Cape Town Sevens cup title, and perhaps all it needed was the special presence of double World Cup-winning Springbok captain Siya Kolisi.
Just a day after producing a Man of the Match performance for the Sharks in Durban on Saturday, Kolisi flew down to Cape Town and made his presence felt at the DHL Stadium as the Blitzboks powered their way through to a famous victory over France in the Cup final.
After the Blitzboks defeated Spain 19-12 in the semi-finals, with Kolisi watching on passionately from a pitchside position, the home team then produced a superb performance in the title decider.
Executing with precision on both attack and defence, the Blitzboks ultimately overpowered the Olympics champions, France, to come away with a deserved 26-14 victory in front of their home fans – and of course Kolisi.
