The Blitzboks topped their pool and will face either Spain or France in the semi-finals of the Cape Town Sevens on Sunday after winning both their games on day one.
Nothing less than victory would suffice for the Blitzboks against the hot-headed Argentines, and the performance matched gravity of the occasion. They thrashed tournament favourites Argentina 29-5 in their second and final pool game to advance.
Dewald Human was star of the show for the Blitzboks, leaving defenders in his dust, dotting down for a try and knocking over a crucial touchline conversion.
While Argentina struggled to get out of first gear in the first half, the South African attack functioned like a well-oiled machine. The hosts scored three unanswered tries — via David Brits, Ricardo Duarttee and Human — to take a commanding 17-0 lead at the break.
The same pattern followed in the second half, with the South African outscoring the Argentines via touchdowns from Shilton van Wyk and Shaun Williams.
