The Blitzboks have been drawn in a challenging pool that includes traditional rivals New Zealand and Ireland for this year’s Olympic Games in France.

The pools were drawn on Sunday night following the conclusion of the Sevens Repechage tournament in Monaco to decide the last remaining men’s and women’s teams to compete at Paris 2024.

The Blitzboks beat Great Britain 14-5 in the final of the qualification tournament on Sunday at the Stade Louis II to book a place at the quadrennial sporting spectacle in the French capital from 24 to 30 July.

The 12 men’s and 12 women’s teams were allocated to three pools of four teams based on their rankings due to performances over the last two years of the World Sevens Series, Challenger Series and other World Rugby-sanctioned tournaments.

Pool A sees top seed New Zealand grouped with Ireland, Japan and South Africa’s Blitzboks.

Hosts France will kick off their Olympic campaign in Pool C together with two-time Games champions Fiji, the USA and debutants Uruguay.

Argentina, who clinched a first Sevens Series title this season, will also face tough competition in Pool B where Los Pumas are set to tackle Australia, Samoa and Kenya.
